Remember the first ad for the 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth? It ended up airing during the 2012 NFL Super Bowl, but had the automaker had its way, you wouldn’t have seen it. Instead, you would have seen this spot, which features none other than beleaguered actor/ “winner” Charlie Sheen.
The premise: a black 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth zips through a large, lavishly-appointed home, racing past scores of attractive women partying. After a few artificial rally slides and a near-donut, the car stops; a leg wearing an ankle bracelet exits the door, and out pops pops Sheen. “I love house arrest,” Sheen growls while eying up model Catrinel Menghia. “What do I get for good behavior?”
Although this was once rumored to have been “too hot for TV,” company officials say this spot – which carries the tagline of “All bad boys aren’t created equal” – simply wasn’t ready in time for the Big Game. Now that it’s finished, Fiat will air it on both national and cable TV channels. Fiat’s alternative 500 Abarth ad is smirk-inducing, at best, but we can’t help but find the “Seduction” ad a bit more clever.
