Lost in all the hoopla of the Chevrolet Volt pricing announcement yesterday was another important announcement from the Bowtie brand. The 2011 Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle will be hitting a beat near you in April 2011.
“When we began designing our latest police vehicle, we went directly to our customers and found that they were looking for a rear-wheel, large sedan with a V-8 engine,” said Brian Small, general manager of GM’s Fleet and Commercial Operations. “By announcing the available specs and ordering information now, we’re following through with our promise to provide them with the advanced technologies that best serve their needs for comfort, performance and safety.”
As noted, we’ve already got the specs and you can read about them here in pdf form. What’s new today is the ordering dates and the delivery dates. As always, rank has privileges and in this case it means that the detectives will get their cars before the beat cops. Chevrolet will begin taking orders on the detective package (codenamed 9C3) in October 2010 with deliveries beginning in April 2011. The rest of the force will have to wait until January 2011 to place their orders and will be waiting until June 2011 to actually put them on the street.
So there you go, lead foots. You have until April to learn these headlights. Study them closely, because there may be a pop quiz about nine months from now. While you’re doing that, don’t forget to send GM emails telling it how badly you want a civilian model.
