First introduced at the Paris auto show in 1984, the SEAT Ibiza minicar has enjoyed tremendous success in the European market since its inception. To celebrate its 30th anniversary, SEAT Design dreamed up a sporty and futuristic-looking SEAT Ibiza Cupster open-top concept that will bow at the 2014 Wörthersee Treffen show in Germany.
The one-off SEAT Ibiza Cupster is based on the production SEAT Cupra 1.4 TSI hatchback, sharing the same 178-hp, 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine mated to a dual-clutch automatic transmission. Just as the Cupster is a combination of “roadster” and “Cupra,” the concept is a Cupra with the entire roof and windshield removed. Instead, occupants sit three inches lower than in the normal car and are protected by a wrap-around tinted glass window.
Sharp lines and a lower, wider stance stand out in the SEAT Ibiza Cupster concept. Most pronounced is the high, upward-angled beltline that extends all the way to the rear. New orange paint provides stark contrast with the black-tinted windows, black-painted 18-inch wheels, and chrome-trimmed side mirrors with matching headrest hoops. Inside a racing theme dominates, with black Alcantara upholstery lining the cockpit designed after the Ibiza Trophy race car.
The SEAT Ibiza Cupster concept is one of many open-top concepts that Volkswagen group is showing at Wörthersee Treffen this year, along with the previously announced A3 Clubsport. Look for more details on other concepts soon.
