Here at Automobile, we celebrate Halloween much like everyone else–by dressing up, eating lots of candy, and watching Hocus Pocus. But the people of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars are celebrating a bit differently: with a new Ghost.
Ok, ok: we know that the Ghost has been around for a few years now, but Rolls-Royce’s engineers have been at work updating the 2012 model to keep the “baby Rolls” up-to-date. The 2013 version, which debuted today on Rolls-Royce’s website (before disappearing mysteriously from the model page), closely follows R-R’s Beijing Auto Show concept from this past April called (we aren’t making this up) the Six Senses Concept.
The entirety of the Ghost’s updates can be summed up in two points: on one hand, the Ghost’s leather headliner gets a couple of “exciter” speakers (R-R speak for tweeters) which help elevate the cabin’s sound stage. For frequent shoppers (or butlers), the Ghost’s comfort access (keyless ignition/entry) system now features the same hand/button-less trunk release as the BMW 3 Series, which requires only a wave of the driver’s foot to open the boot.
Aside from that, it’s business as usual with the Rolls-Royce Ghost. The rear doors are suicide-style, the 6.6-liter V-12 engine makes the car spooky fast, and the wool carpeting and thick door insulation ensures that while sitting in the back seat, no one can hear you scream. There are 44,000 paint colors to choose from–enough to drive anyone mad–and the starting price for the 2013 model is around $225,000, which is enough to drain most mortals’ bank accounts in a very Dracula-esque fashion.
