Report: Subaru Already Planning Race-Spec BRZ Coupe

We haven’t yet even seen official photos of the production car, and already discussions about racing the upcoming Subaru BRZ have begun. According to the official Subaru Motorsport Magazine, a factory-backed effort to race the new, rear-wheel-drive sports is being planned as we speak.

While Subaru has a long history in rally racing, as showcased by several Impreza WRXs shown at this year’s SEMA show, this new series will focus more on track competition. And although the brand is best known for its off-road efforts, it’s not exactly a total newbie to the world of road racing. The company has backed numerous touring car efforts in its native Japan (including several in the Super GT  series), and has sponsored the North American Subaru Road Racing Team since 2006.

Since the site is in Japanese, and we were reliant on Google Translate to try to figure out the details, there’s not much to report yet, other than that the series will allegedly leverage the expertise gained with the Legacy B4 GT300 program.

More details are expected to surface at the Tokyo Motor Show in December. Stay tuned to Automobile Magazine for more details as they break.
