The Kia Quoris luxury sedan will launch in the U.S. market next year. Our colleagues at Automotive.com learned as much from a Kia official during a launch event for the 2014 Kia Cadenza sedan. At the same time, officials told A.com that we’ll learn more about the next generation of the Sedona minivan later this year.
Kia launched the K9 luxury sedan in its home market of South Korea last year, and promised the model would launch overseas as the Quoris. The Kia is based on the Hyundai Genesis and, when it is sold in the U.S., will probably offer the same lineup of 333-hp, 3.8-liter V-6 and 429-hp, 5.0-liter V-8 engines as the Genesis sedan. Its long list of technological goodies includes LED head- and taillights, soft-close doors, haptic-feedback controls, and a head-up display.
According to A.com, Kia officials say the Quoris will launch in about two years — figure early 2015 — for a price between $50,000 and $70,000. The reason for the delay? Kia is in the process of launching seven new models, and needs to distance the Quoris lest all the new car debuts overlap. The Kia Quoris is an important model because it is a key component of the Korean car company’s stated ambition to compete with “first-class brands” like Audi, Lexus, and Mercedes-Benz by 2017.
Kia marketing officials also told A.com to expect news on a next-generation Kia Sedona minivan later this year. The 2014 model is simply a warmed-up 2012 Sedona, hinting that it’s a lame duck until a new vehicle is ready for production. Michael Sprague, Kia executive vice president of marketing and communications, told A.com that the minivan segment is very important to Kia, and that the company took a significant sales hit when the Sedona briefly vanished from showrooms between 2012 and 2014.
