It looks like Fisker may be trying to stack its deck with defectors from General Motors. According to Automotive News this morning, the California-based car company has hired Joel Ewanick as its interim chief of global sales and marketing.
If Ewanick’s name sounds familiar to you, it’s because he was ousted this past summer from his post as GM’s global marketing chief. While the reasons for his departure from the American automaker are hazy, we previously reported that it probably had something to do with Chevrolet’s sponsorship deal of Manchester United and Ewanick’s clashes with CEO Dan Akerson.
Ewanick will take over at Fisker for Richard Beattie, who announced his retirement this morning. However, Ewanick’s appointment isn’t intended to be a long-term appointment – much like Fisker’s previous appointment of industry veteran Tom LaSorda as CEO — and Fisker says that it is still continuing the search for a permanent successor.
According to AN, one of the major reasons Ewanick has signed onto Fisker is because of his previous relationship with Tony Posawatz while the two were at GM. Posawatz became CEO of Fisker this past summer, marking the car company’s third CEO in 2012. Also on board is Jim Yost – a veteran of Ford – who was appointed as Fisker’s CFO earlier this year.
