Cadillac introduced its “V” performance line in 2004 with the CTS-V sedan, and the brand is now planning to expand its Vsport sub-brand which debuted this year with the 2014 Cadillac XTS Vsport sedan.
According to a report by The Detroit News, Cadillac product director Hampden Tener said that the Vsport designation would be used on future models and performance accessories for Cadillacs as a sub-brand to fill the gap between traditional Cadillac luxury models and the high-performance V models.
“You can look to us to expand this idea to additional models, additional vehicle models, and also using the branding for performance or sport appearance-related options and accessories,” Tener said.
Cadillac reportedly expects the Vsport model of the XTS to make up between 10 and 15 percent of all XTS sales. The 2014 Cadillac XTS Vsport is equipped with a twin-turbo, 3.6-liter V-6 engine producing 410 hp through an all-wheel-drive system. The Vsport package also adds Brembo brakes, 20-inch wheels, and a special grille to the standard XTS sedan.
The next Cadillac model to receive the Vsport designation will be the redesigned 2014 Cadillac CTS sedan. The CTS Vsport will receive the same twin-turbo V-6 as the XTS Vsport, producing 420 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque, in this iteration mated to an eight-speed automatic and rear-wheel drive.
We would expect the Cadillac ATS sedan to be the next product to receive the Vsport name, as it is a sport sedan aimed at the benchmark BMW 3-Series. Keep an eye out for more Vsport models and accessories in the future.
