Recall Roundup: 634,000 Foresters, Legacys, Outbacks, and Tribecas for Puddle Lights

The Problem: Roughly 634,000 Subaru models sold before January 2012 are being recalled for a potential short circuit in the optional puddle lights. If the circuit board for the light or the light connectors is exposed to moisture (such as road spray) it may short. A short is more likely to occur after a buildup of moisture, which would create heat and could cause smoke or, potentially, a fire.

The Fix: Subaru will begin notifying owners in February. Dealers will then install an additional fused harness to protect the light connectors and circuit boards. Owners can contact Subaru at 1-800-782-8783 regarding recall VQE-41 for more information.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: A total of 633,842 Subaru models spanning model years 2006 to 2012. The count includes 85,651 2010-2011 Legacy sedans, 200,365 2010-2011 Outback wagons, 69,650 2006-2011 Tribeca large crossovers, and 275,392 2009-2011 Forester compact crossovers, as well a yet-to-be-determined number of 2012 Tribeca and Forester models.
