Recall Central: Windshield Motor Issues for 2008 Mazda3

/strong>Mazda has just released a recall on the previous gen Mazda3. Reuters and the Mazda office in Europe reports that the windshield wiper motor could fail due to an electrical glitch.

The Problem: According to Mazda Europe, the problem affects model year 2008 Mazda3/Axela cars. Reuters adds that the recall covers cars and related parts shipped between January 2008 and July 2010. Mazda discovered that an oxide film has the potential to develop around the wiper motor’s ground wire contact point. The film ultimately causes a loss of contact for the ground wire. The issue is likely due to a deformed ground terminal.

The Fix: Mazda will send out letters this summer notifying owners. The fix will include the installation of a new ground wire, free of charge.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: Reuters states that a total of 494,500 vehicles are affected: 157,700 units in North America; 91,600 in Europe; 84,000 in China; and 20,000 in Japan.
