Recall Central: Toyota RAV4s, Highlander, Highlander Hybrids Covered by Safety Recall

Toyota’s latest recall includes the airbag sensor assembly in certain 2007-2008 RAV4s and 2008 Highlander and Highlander Hybrids.

2007-2008 RAV4, 2008 Highlander, 2008 Highlander Hybrid

The Problem: If one of the sensors used to detect vehicle roll angle in the airbag sensor assembly malfunctions, the airbag warning light will illuminate and the roll detection system will be suspended. The airbag will still remain available in the event of a side collision, but if both sensors fail at the same time, the seat belt pretensioner and curtain shield airbag could deploy.

The Fix: Owners of the affected vehicles will receive a notification letter by mail in May 2011. Toyota will also post information on its website. Toyota dealers will replace the roll angle sensor assembly with a new one at no cost to the customer.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: There are approximately 214,000 RAV4 vehicles and approximately 94,000 Highlander and Highlander Hybrid vehicles
