Steering and air bag issues are to blame for the latest round of recalls from Honda and General Motors, affecting sedans, trucks, and SUVs.
2005-2007 Cadillac CTS
The Problem: The front passenger air bag of the CTS may not deploy as a result of repeated flexing from the passenger sensing system mat. If the mat is bent or folded, the mat’s connections could break, meaning the sensor wouldn’t detect a passenger and disable the air bag.
The Fix: Dealers will replace the mat, though a recall schedule has not yet been announced.
Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 95,927
The Problem: On V-6 Accords and Pilots, bolts that attach the lower left and right front damper bracket to the front suspension and the spindle nuts may not be tightened properly, possibly resulting in noise and a loss of steering. As the National Highway for Traffic Safety Administration says, “loss of steering increases the risk of a crash.”
The Fix: Loose front damper bracket bolts and spindle nuts will be replaced by the dealer. The recall is expected to begin today.
Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 10,823
The Problem: A rear axle cross pin that was improperly heat treated could fracture and become displaced within the rear axle. Aside from possible noise, this could cause the rear axle to lock, making it more difficult for the driver to maintain control of the car.
The Fix: Dealers will install a new rear axle cross pin. The recall is expected to begin in January.
