The Problem: A missing adhesive patch means that, over time, the rear axle pinion nut may come loose. If so, it could cause the rear axle to seize and lock up, potentially causing an accident. Chrysler has received reports of 15 accidents but no injuries resulting from this problem.
The Fix: Dealers will install a special retainer to keep the pinion nut in place. The free recall will begin in March.
Number Of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 278,222 vehicles, including the following: 2009-2012 Ram 1500 trucks built between February 2008 and June 2009, and December 2009 and October 2011; 2009-2011 Dodge Dakota trucks made between February 2007 and June 2009, and December 2009 and September 2011; 2009 Chrysler Aspen SUVs built between January and December 2008; and 2009 Dodge Durango SUVs made between January and December 2008.
