Recall Central: 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe Recalled for Brake Calipers

After reading of the Kia Sorento’s brake caliper recall, it’s not too surprising to learn its corporate sibling — the Hyundai Santa Fe — is facing a similar campaign.

The Problem: Some 2011 Santa Fe crossovers may have been built with improperly machined rear brake calipers. As a result, these calipers could leak brake fluid, decreasing the effectiveness of the brake system. Owners of affected vehicles will see a warning light in the instrument cluster, and potentially notice a spongy brake pedal feel.

The Fix: Hyundai will notify all Santa Fe owners of the recall later this month, prompting them to bring their vehicles into a dealership for inspection. If the vehicle is fitted with faulty rear calipers, they will be replaced free of charge.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 1783 Santa Fes, all built between September 28 and November 25, 2010, may have been fitted with the calipers in question. Hyundai, however, expects less than half that total will actually need caliper replacement.
