Ram Launching Special Services Police Truck with 5.7-Liter Hemi V-8

Take note, speeders: Ram Truck is launching a new Ram 1500 specially modified for police and first-responder fleets. Along with numerous upgrades to improve its durability, the Ram 1500 Special Services uses a burly Hemi V-8.

The 5.7-liter V-8 engine produces 390 hp and 407 lb-ft of torque. Coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission and standard four-wheel drive, the powertrain enables a 10,000-pound towing capacity and 1455-pound payload capacity. The truck is available only in Crew Cab configuration, with four full doors.

Upgrades to help the truck meet the demands of fleet use include more durable spark plugs, a larger oil cooler, and an upgraded 220-amp alternator designed to power an array of electronics. A special fuse block with extra relays is designed to accommodate accessories like lights, sirens, computers, radar systems, and on-board cameras.

Inside, the cloth front and vinyl rear seats are stain-resistant, and the center console has been removed to provide more space for equipment. The transmission shifter has been relocated to the steering column, and the instrument cluster has engine-hour and idle-hour meters.Other equipment the comes standard includes four key fobs, power front seats, additional interior dome lights, 17-inch steel wheels, and the lockable RamBox bed storage system.
