Race Spec Volkswagen Scirocco Slated to Take On Nurburgring

Whatever your opinion on Volkswagen’s Scirocco reincarnate, you’ve got to admit that, when kitted out for closed-circuit competition, it looks pretty mean.; Motor Authority has the first photo of the racing ‘Rocco undergoing testing, and we like what we see.

Rumor has it that the car will be entered at the annual 24-Hour Race at the Nurburgring at the end of May, piloted by Le Mans champion Hans-Joachim Stuck, WRC driver extraordinare Carlos Sainz, and – to appease the beancounters – Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, board member of VW itself.

Like the Golf GTI campaigned last year, the Scirocco racer is slated for a 300-horsepower, 2.0-liter TFSI I-4 coupled through a DSG gearbox.; The GTI was victorious in its class; with similar powertrain, killer looks, and some mad talent behind the wheel, there’s a good chance the Scirocco may continue that tradition.
