Porsche Introduces Platinum Edition for Cayenne and Cayenne S E-Hybrid

Includes most of the good stuff you’d want in a Porsche

In a decision that we hope was not inspired by the the Ford Explorer Platinum, the Porsche Cayenne will receive a special Platinum Edition trim level for its base V-6 and S E-Hybrid models. The new trim level will be available later this year, packaging together a ton of popular options as well as some mild visual enhancements.

The second-generation Porsche Cayenne has been in showrooms 2010, and despite a model refresh in 2015, sales have dropped off in the past few years from their peak of 18,507 units in 2013. Profit margins are known to be nice and fat on pricier models like the Cayenne GTS, Turbo, and Turbo S, but Porsche is introducing a the Platinum Edition trim to perhaps sweeten the pot for two of its cheaper variants.

The base Porsche Cayenne uses a 300-hp 3.6-liter V-6 and eight-speed automatic transmission, while the Cayenne S E-Hybrid bundles a 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 engine with a plug-in hybrid electric drivetrain for a total output of 416 hp.

Both the base Porsche Cayenne V-6 and Cayenne S E-Hybrid Platinum Edition will get big 20-inch RS Spyder wheels, wider and extended wheel arches, a black exterior trim package, and a distinctive interior with plenty of Alcantara inserts, eight-way power-adjustable leather sport seats, Porsche crests embossed into the headrests, and stainless-steel door sills with the “Platinum Edition” name etched in. S E-Hybrid models keep their signature bright-green brake calipers.

In addition to looking the part, the Platinum Edition versions of the Porsche Cayenne will lump in popular items like bi-xenon headlights with the Porsche Dynamic Light System, Power Steering Plus, and front/rear park assist, the updated PCM infotainment system, Bose surround sound audio, and navigation. Only S E-Hybrid versions will also get an auxiliary cabin climate control system that allows the owner to set the temperature before entering.

Compared to the standard Porsche Cayenne, which starts at $60,650 including destination, the Platinum Edition adds all of that tech and styling improvements for just $5,400 for a grand total of $66,050. For the Cayenne S E-Hybrid Platinum Edition, its starting price of $82,650 is $2,900 north of the standard S E-Hybrid’s price of $79,750.

The Porsche Cayenne Platinum Edition will be offered for a limited time, and it’s already included in Porsche’s online configurator.
