Porsche 911 Turbo Convertible and GT3 Caught Testing

The old 997-generation Porsche 911 offered a dizzying amount of variants and the current 991 promises to carry on the tradition. The folks over at Motor Trend recently snapped two new variants of the Porsche 911 — a 911 Turbo Cabriolet and the 911 GT3 — and we’re sure this is just the start of more flat-six goodness to come.

First up is the 2013 911 Turbo Cabriolet. Like the coupe version we caught last year, the biggest giveaways here are the quad-tipped exhaust pipes, ginormous rear fenders pierced with large air scoops leading to the flat-six engine, and the air vents located on the lower bumpers. Engine details and power figures are still unknown, but expect numbers to be north of the 500 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque produced by the outgoing 2012 911 turbo. There are also rumors that the new 911 Turbo will get not just two, but three turbos; the third turbo would be a smaller unit to help improve low-end response.

Next up is a Porsche 911 GT3 tester, which appears to be slightly different than the mule caught last month. GT3 trademarks on this tester include the center-mounted dual exhaust tips, aggressive front bumper, and wide tires (the other 911 Turbo tester had center-lock rims). Expect the finished product to sport more aerodynamic bits including a front-lip and fixed rear-wing spoiler. The track-focused 911 GT3 will have a gutted interior and a tweaked version of the 3.8-liter flat-six engine used in the Carrera S. Current rumors claim the GT3 will put out 450 hp, compared to 400 hp in the 2012 911 Carrera S and 435 hp in the now-gone 2011 911 GT3.

Head over to Motor Trend to see all the 2013 911 Turbo and 911 GT3 goodness.
