Oprah’s Audience Members Finally Receive Their 2012 Volkswagen Beetles

/strong>It’s hard to believe that almost a year has passed since Oprah teased – and then told all 275 audience members that they were the winners of – the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle. For the lucky recipients, it probably feels like an eternity, but it’s time to claim their prize.

Volkswagen announced that 21 winners who reside near the Volkswagen dealer in Orland Park, Illinois will be the first group to receive their new Beetles on Thursday, October 13. This will also be the Beetle’s official debut. Oprah gave away the Beetles as part of her “Ultimate Favorite Things” episode last November 22, where she and Volkswagen first teased the new Beetle behind a curtain and then told all 275 members of the audience that they would be getting one of their own this fall (taxes and fees paid, of course). The remaining winners should be receiving their Beetles shortly.

While her Beetle giveaway was definitely over the top, it wasn’t the first time Oprah showered her guests with free sheet metal. During one episode in 2004, the talk show diva and Pontiac gave away G6s to all 276 members of the audience. Unlike the Beetle winners who had to wait almost a year, the G6 recipients were instantly gratified as they discovered their prize sitting out on the studio parking lot.
