Oops! Camaro Z/28 May Still Live, GM Media Site Says

A presumable snafu on GM’s media site revealed an image caption that made us both excited and intrigued. The questionable caption was tagged to an image showing an exploded view of the recently released Camaro ZL1’s supercharged LSA engine.  Underneath it read: “2012 LSA 6.2L V-8 SC (LSA) for Chevrolet Camaro Z28”. Color us extremely interested.

The image raises a few significant questions: Was the recently revealed 2012 Camaro ZL1 originally dubbed the Z/28?

Or better yet, Will the 6.2-liter LSA also be used in a future, more powerful Camaro Z/28?

Further fueling the Camaro fire are our well placed sources at the Chicago Auto Show floor who tell us the “Z/28 hasn’t been forgotten (by GM).” Other scuttlebutt says GM may be possibly saving the famed Z/28 name for a track-only edition (something along the lines of the naturally-aspirated, LS3-powered Camaro SSX SEMA Car) that would target the Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca. If so, the classic Trans-Am matchups of years long gone could be revived.
