Nissan Sentra Nismo Concept Shown at 2013 LA Auto Show

Nissan surprised us with the Nissan Sentra Nismo concept that makes its debut at the 2013 Los Angeles auto show. We knew the company’s Nismo performance division would be showing a Nissan Juke Nismo RS, but this modified Sentra compact sedan appeared out of the blue with a turbocharged engine and aggressive appearance package.

Compared with the boring Nissan Sentra, this Nissan Sentra Nismo looks sharp, and its specifications give us hope that Nissan is not completely abandoning its enthusiast street cred. Nissan says this concept was prompted by fans asking for another high-performance Sentra, and this concept certainly revives fond memories of previous Nissan Sentra SE-R models.

The Nissan Sentra Nismo concept is powered by a 1.8-liter, direct injection, turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes “more than 240 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque,” according to Nissan. This is mated with a six-speed manual transmission, and even routes its power through a limited-slip differential—yes, we’re still talking about a Sentra.

To accompany the extra power, Nismo has modified the chassis with performance shocks and springs along with performance tires and Brembo brakes. Exterior modifications include a deeper front fascia, red accents on the lower side sills and rear underbody spoiler, flared fenders, a rear diffuser with dual exhaust tips, a new grille and lower air intake, and smoked headlights and taillights. The black and silver 19-inch Rays wheels look great and give the Sentra Nismo a sportier stance in combination with the lowered suspension.

On the inside, the Nissan Sentra Nismo concept receives special leather and Alcantara trim on the seats, the pillars and headliner, and the special Nismo-style steering wheel. The shift knob and shifter boot surround are also trimmed in leather, and the instrument panel features a carbon fiber finish.

Nissan is calling this concept a “performance study,” so we don’t know if it has a chance of making production. Give that the Nismo performance arm has been more active lately, though, we wouldn’t be surprised if this hotted-up Sentra became a reality.

Look for the Nissan Sentra Nismo concept at the 2013 Los Angeles auto show this week along with Nismo’s other debut, the 2014 Nissan Juke Nismo RS.
