Nissan GT-R Cobra N+ Tuning Concept

The mighty Nissan GT-R is making its way to the European market in the spring of 2009. In the meantime, a German tuning outfit called Cobra Technology has been hard at work readying both a tuning program and a show car. The result is this – the Nissan GT-R Cobra N+ Tuning Concept.

With this initial concept, Cobra reprogrammed the GT-R’s ECU for an additional 0.15 bar (about 2 psi) of boost. The air intake was also modified to enhance breathing. The result is an output of 550 hp and 501 lb-ft of torque. Cobra says that “first stage” GT-Rs are expected to hit 62 mph in under 3.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 199 mph. It is currently working on a race performance engine that will boast 620 hp and 590 ft-lbs of torque.

Cobra also enhanced the handling and brakes of the concept. It wears special 3-piece lightweight 21-inch wheels, and the larger rims leave room for eight-piston front calipers with 15.9-inch rotors. An adjustable coil-over suspension was added to the concept to further sharpen the handling and provide selectable right height and damper rates.

The concept wears a unique styling kit to enhance the GT-R’s styling and improve cooling and aerodynamics. The body kit consists of a new front air dam to reduce front lift and improve airflow to the radiators and front brakes. Reshaped side skirts ensure optimal airflow between the wheel arches, and a new wing for added downforce. A new rear diffuser is also included.

The program offers two interior options. First, a so-called “luxurious” package includes specially-sewn upholstery, consisting of both leather and Alcantera. The other option offers a full racing cockpit with lightweight carbon-fiber seats, six-point harnesses, and a full roll cage.

The tuning program will launch as soon as the GT-R hits European dealers. It is unknown whether Cobra will offer these parts individually or only as a complete package.
