Nissan Announces $240 Bump for 2012 Cube, Starts at $15,740

Nissan has announced pricing for its funky and angular Cube five door for the 2012 model year, which will now carries a base price of $15,740 with the $760 destination and handling charge.

The Cube will now come in just three trim levels, as the short-lived Cube Krom was discontinued at the end of 2011. All Cubes use a 1.8-liter inline-four cylinder rated at 122 hp and 127 lb-ft to power the front wheels. Cube 1.8 and 1.8 S models are equipped standard with a six-speed manual transmission, while the 1.8 S has an optional CVT that is standard on all Cube 1.8 SLs.

Base Cube 1.8 models with the manual transmission have seen a price hike of $240 over 2011 to $15,740. Buyers stepping up to the Cube 1.8 S will net body-color exterior mirrors, Bluetooth connectivity, an iPod interface, leather-wrapped steering wheel, map lights, chrome-plated interior door handles, premium cloth trim, cruise control, and a drivers armrest for $17,180 – an increase of $320 over last year. Nissan asks buyers to pony up an additional $1000 for the CVT transmission.

The $19,280, top-level Cube 1.8 SL is standard with everything the 1.8 S offers and the CVT, as well as 16-inch aluminum wheels, automatic climate control, automatic headlights, and passive keyless entry; also $320 more than for 2011. Last year’s SL Preferred Package has gotten a new price tag of $1760, since the passive keyless entry is now standard; the SL Preferred Package on 2011 models contained passive keyless entry, a navigation system with backup camera, Rockford Fosgate six-speaker sound system, satellite radio, and an iPod interface.

New for 2012 is the Cube 1.8 S Indigo Limited Edition, which takes up the torch as the funkiest Cube model from the now-defunct Krom. The Indigo Limited Edition is decked out in a unique black and indigo interior color palette, 15-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, passive keyless entry, a navigation system with backup camera, Rockford Fosgate six-speaker sound system, satellite radio, and iPod interface as standard. All that deep-blue goodness can be yours for an additional $1900.

Nissan has also added a fixed passenger-seat armrest as standard on S and SL models along with five new exterior colors: Pearl White, Brilliant Silver, Gun Metallic, Cayenne Red and Bali Blue. The 2012 Cube is available at Nissan dealers now.
