Is this the Next Gumpert? New Tornante Teaser Reaches the Web

If this teaser photo is the work of Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera, we’re going to need more of it. This car here is not of French origins, but is supposedly the Gumpert Tornante that will bow at the Geneva Motor Show next week.

Until now, we’ve only seen the Tornante from the front, and like the teaser, it’s merely an illustration. Like the Apollo supercar, the Tornante won’t be short on speed but it will be more civilized and luxurious.

The new teaser photo doesn’t reveal much, like any good teaser should. The taillights remind us of the Bugatti Veyron, appropriate given the Tornante will be in that price strata. We also see the closed gullwing door, and it’ll surely be more impressive when we catch the new Gumpert in person. Until the Geneva show, we must be patient.

This much we do know: the Tornante, or “Fast Tourer,” will get an Audi 4.2-liter V-8 with two turbochargers. The boosted eight-cylinder will sit in the middle of the two-seater coupe with 700 horsepower on tap. Drivers will manage that hefty output with a six-speed semi-automatic transmission with paddle shifters. Gumpert will make great use of carbon fiber and composites to keep the weight down, and we hear it’ll probably go on sale in the U.S. European buyers should get their hands on the Tornante by 2012.

Stay tuned for more Tornante details when we head over to Switzerland next week.
