We already got a good look at the next MDX when Acura rolled out a “prototype” version (pictured here) at this year’s Detroit auto show. The 2014 MDX makes more of an evolutionary change than a revolutionary one progressing from its second generation to its third, and takes on more of an eleven-tenths RDX aesthetic. The MDX will also feature the Jewel Eye LED headlights and dual-screen Acura Link infotainment system from the new RLX sedan. Returning for 2014 is the same 3.5-liter V-6 from this year’s car, again equipped in either Super Handling All-Wheel Drive or front-wheel drive guises. While Acura hasn’t released powertrain figures, the V-6 produces 310 hp in the RLX and 300 hp in the second-generation MDX. Acura also promises to equip the 2014 MDX with a veritable alphabet soup of safety systems: LKAS (Lane Keeping Assist System), ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control), BSI (Blind Spot Information), FCW (Forward Collision Warning), and LDW (Lane Departure Warning).
Honda will also show the 2014 Odyssey minivan at the New York show, which is receiving a mid-cycle facelift. The automaker hasn’t detailed the extent to which the Odyssey will get updated, but expect it to be mostly cosmetic. More likely than not, the van’s 248-hp, 250-lb-ft 3.5-liter V-6 and five- and six-speed automatics will carry over.
