Chevrolet is milking the public’s curiosity about its upcoming Malibu sedan for all it’s worth with a continuing slow drip of photos, renderings, and information. As part of a lead-up to a live video reveal next week, a close-up photo of the car’s head unit has been released. It appears to be a top-hinged, flat-panel display, with storage behind, and what appears to be an iPhone 4 nestled in the cubby. It’s unknown whether this head unit will be standard issue, or an option on the more premium trim levels. Based on the icons visible in the image, multiple entertainment and communication options will be available, including Pandora, Stitcher, XM, as well as the now industry-standard MP3 (iPod) and Bluetooth streaming support.
The other big part of the announcement is a live video reveal to take place on April 18 at 8:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Although the official reveal of the car will be in Shanghai, China, the video reveal coincides nicely with the press days of the New York International Auto Show later in the week. The video will be hosted at watchthenewchevymalibuinhd.com. To check that your browser and internet connection will correctly support the stream, Chevrolet recommends logging in before April 18.
Bryan Nesbitt, executive director of exterior design for Chevrolet, and Jon Hahn, Chevrolet marketing manager, will answer questions during a live, moderated video web session. Participants are encouraged to post questions during the reveal on Twitter using #MalibuReveal or on Chevrolet’s Facebook page in the Malibu tab.
In addition, the guys at Chevy also had a little bit of fun recently with a camouflaged version of the new Malibu, producing a video about how they disguise prototypes like the 2013 Malibu featuring legendary spy photographer Jim Dunne in a starring role. It’s a neat look at how they tape up the cars to try and fool packs of shooters like Dunne. You can check it out below.
