The MyFord and MyLincoln Touch systems replace certain buttons with touch screen menus and voice commands.
“MyFord Touch, combined with new SYNC functionality, creates an experience that will cause people to fall in love with their vehicles again,” said Derrick Kuzak, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development, when the technology was introduced earlier this year. “It’s not just a technology; it’s an experience – one we hope will have people across the globe looking forward to spending time behind the wheel of their vehicle.”
Unlike most vehicles, though, these systems require a little extra time at the beginning of the ownership experience to learn how to use the vehicle and customize to specific tastes. Those who aren’t diligent about reading their owner’s manual may be confused.
“If people don’t know the proper commands,” said Ford spokesman Alan Hall, to Automotive News, “they think the system isn’t working. We’re trying to aggressively help change that.”
Soon, Ford’s Web site will have instructional videos about MyFord Touch functions. A small number of vehicles with MyFord Touch have had software problems that Hall says originate from consumers not knowing how to perform various functions.
