Mountune Creates Ford Focus RS500 Upgrade Kit

If you live in Europe and were unable to reserve a Ford Focus RS500, you’re not completely out of luck. Essex, England-based tuning firm Mountune now offers Focus RS owners an upgrade kit that’ll improve power to that of an RS500.

Available now, Mountune’s MP350 kit boosts the power in the RS’s 2.5-liter I-5 from 300 to 345 horsepower and from 325 pound-feet of torque to 339. The kit’s performance enhancements exactly match that of the RS500, which uses the same powerplant.

“Mountune Performance has worked very closely with Ford TeamRS to develop this approved upgrade package, and we’re delighted to be able to meet the demand we know exists among existing Focus RS customers,” said John Mitchell MD of Revolve Technologies, parent company to the Mountune Performance brand.

The power boost comes from the addition of only five components: a larger intercooler, bigger downpipe, reworked air box, high-flow fuel pump, and a flashed ECM. The performance upgrades allows 60-percent more air flow, all while keeping the stock filter. The price is set at a very reasonable $3369 and includes installation. Even better: The upgrades are Ford approved and don’t affect the factory warranty. The kit can be installed at Montune or at a handful of Ford dealers scattered throughout the U.K.

The upgrades won’t exactly give you a proper RS500, but the power will be there. Some owners might even find it as a good thing, seeing as they won’t be forced into the matte black paint scheme standard on the RS500.
