Known as the RVR in Japan, the Outlander Sport will be sold in Europe as the ASX. While the RVR will be offered to Japanese consumers come February, the compact crossover will be touted as a world premiere during March’s Geneva motor show.
These images, released by Mitsubishi’s European press office, purportedly show a European-spec ASX. For the most part, it’s completely identical to Outlander Sport photos Mitsubishi previously teased us with. In these new photos, the crossover receives a blacked-out grille and argent body cladding, but we suspect this will be a matter of trim levels, not market differentiation.
Regardless of the nameplate attached, the Outlander Sport/RVR/ASX will ride on the same platform used on Mitsubishi’s Lancer sedan. European models will be available with an all-new 1.8-liter turbo-diesel I-4, but expect powertrain offerings for North American models to closely resemble those in the Lancer itself (i.e. a 2.0- or 2.4-liter gasoline I-4).
Mitsubishi hasn’t officially announced when it plans on launching the Outlander Sport in the U.S., but you can expect the new offering to enter our market within the next six months.
