Ready for some off-road racing? Mopar — Chrysler’s aftermarket and performance parts division — appears to be ready and rearing at the bit. The brand announced it will sponsor The Off-Road Championship (TORC) truck racing series for 2011.
What exactly does that entail? For starters, Mopar will sponsor three Ram-based racers for the 2011 TORC season. Three trucks will be campaigned by Menzies Motorsports, while Traxxas Racing will field an additional two trucks. If that isn’t enough, a Ram pickup, fitted with Mopar’s Ram Runner off-road performance kit, will serve as the series’ official pace truck.
The sponsorship is meant to further Mopar’s commitment to racing, and it will also serve as a form of advertising. As the “official truck of TORC,” Chrysler is able to place Mopar/Ram displays at each race to hawk its wares. Spectators will be able to ogle new Ram products, and wring them over a small pseudo-off-road course that allows them to test-drive the vehicles.
The 2011 TORC season kicks off May 28 in Michigan, and finishes the year October 16 in Texas. The short-course tracks consist of “whoops and jump-filled natural terrain” that demands rugged toughness from the race-modified trucks.
