Michelin launches second generation of LTX M/S truck tire

Michelin has a new tire for full-size trucks and SUVs, known as the LTX M/S2. The new tire replaces the LTX M/S. Michelin has developed the LTX M/S2 to maximize on-road comfort, wet and snow performance, and durability. Michelin proudly touts the interlocking sipes of the LTX M/S2 that allow water to pass out of the tires, but add rigidity to the tread blocks when they’re under load. A new compound that includes silica also permits better water evacuation and helps grip the pavement better.

Alternatives to the LTX M/S2 include the Bridgestone Dueler H/T 684 II and the Goodyear Wrangler SA. Michelin claims their tire stops seven feet shorter than the competition on wet surfaces.

There are 38 sizes available for wheels ranging from 15 to 20 inches in diameter. The tire will eventually be fit to some trucks and SUVs from the factory, but Michelin hasn’t yet announced what those vehicles will be. The company anticipates the tire to be a common replacement choice for Chevrolet Silverado, Dodge Ram, and Ford F-150 owners. The current-generation LTX M/S is factory-equipped on several Ford, Chrysler, and General Motors products. Prices for an LTX M/S2 range from roughly $120 to $250 depending on the tire size and retailer. The tire carries a 70,000-mile warranty.

Michelin is also launching a new international marketing campaign under the tagline “The Right Tire Changes Everything” that includes some pretty fun animated commercials featuring the puffy white Michelin Man.
