The C-Class is perhaps the most varied model in the Mercedes-Benz line up. On one end there is the mild-mannered four-cylinder C250; then there is the world-class, barely street-legal, 510-hp C63 AMG Black Series.
German car mag Auto Sport recently got behind the wheel of the newest Black Series (with aero package and Dunlop Sport Maxx Race tires) and flogged it around the Nurburgring, posting a very big-boy time of 7:46. That time beats a number of notable lap times the magazine achieved in other vehicles. For example, the mighty, twin-turbo, V-12-powered SL65 AMG Black Series needed 7:51; the E92 BMW M3 GTS (with Pirelli P Zero Corsas) did it in 7:48 and CLK63 Black Series (with Pirelli P Zero Corsas) needed 8:05.
Auto Sport also had at it with a 2012 C63 AMG coupe; that car also had Continental Sport Contact tires and the Performance Package, which boosts horsepower from 451 to 481 through engine tweaks. Put all that together and you get a lap time of 8:01, which beats the 8:13 time the magazine achieved in a pre-updated C63 sedan.
Those times are definitely impressive, but will the folks from AMG ever surpass the Lexus LFA or Dodge Viper ACR (7:14 and 7:12 respectively)? We’ll likely have to wait for the next Black Series to find out.
