McLaren P1 GTR Design Concept to be Revealed at Pebble Beach

If you’ve already blown $1,150,000 on a fancy new McLaren P1, but your wallet is somehow still feeling uncomfortably heavy, you might want to scoot over to Pebble Beach. McLaren plans to pull the sheet off of its latest demonic creation, a design concept for the upcoming McLaren P1 GTR, on the Concept Lawn at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August.

The British supercar company released a teaser photo of the track-only McLaren P1 GTR design concept, and it looks—as it should—positively ludicrous. Aside from the slick racing tries and new wheels, the McLaren P1 GTR will likely receive a no-holds-barred aerodynamic upgrade with a gargantuan fixed rear wing and exaggerated, Lamborghini Veneno-like rear diffusers. Not to be outdone by the growing list of high-performance track speedsters out there, the P1 GTR will debut with a revised dual-exhaust system so big that looks like it could easily accommodate two pool noodles.

Reserved exclusively for existing P1 owners, the McLaren P1 GTR will enjoy a power bump from the road car’s ho-hum 903 hp to a stunning 986 hp. McLaren still is not saying how exactly this feat was achieved, but it’s likely a result of race-tuning the existing 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-8 already in the P1, as well as the effect of the aforementioned enlarged exhausts. Owners will also have access to McLaren driving instructors, racing simulators, and international drive events.

The McLaren P1 GTR will begin production after the final, 375th road-going P1 model is completed in June 2015. McLaren is pricing the track monster at around $3,360,000 (£1.98 million), and of course, production will be extremely limited.

McLaren will first preview the P1 GTR design concept at an exclusive event at Pebble Beach on August 16, followed by the car’s public debut on the Concept Lawn.
