Lotus Gears up for Indy Grand Prix of Alabama this Weekend

Lotus re-entered both Formula 1 and the IndyCar series this year, and the Lotus IndyCar team is gearing up for the Indy Grand Prix of Alabama at Barber Motorsports Park on Sunday.

So far this season, driver Takuma Sato and the Lotus IndyCar team have yet to finish a race because of accidents, but the team is feeling better about the upcoming event. Sato says he is aiming for a racing “revolution” of his own this weekend.

“The track at Barber is a lot more like an F1 circuit, which is what I am used to,” said Takuma Sato, who is a former Formula 1 driver. “I do enjoy the street races, but they can be harder to get into a rhythm, so I am really looking forward to pushing myself and the car hard, making up for the issues we had at the last race at St. Petersburg [Florida] and making Lotus proud.”

“I am really looking forward to this weekend,” said Claudio Berro, director of motorsports for Lotus. “The Lotus mechanics together with the KV Racing team have been working hard on getting the perfect setup for Taku to suit his driving style.”

In addition to tuning the car to Sato’s liking, Berro feels the team also has another advantage over its competitors this weekend. “Barber Motorsports Park feels like a home away from home as the resort houses the largest collection of Lotus cars anywhere in the world, so I would like to think that we have a small psychological advantage over our competitors.”

See if Lotus’ preparation and potential psychological advantage pays off this weekend when the Indy Grand Prix of Alabama begins at 3 p.m. Sunday.
