LoJack, the company widely credited with pioneering stolen vehicle recovery, released its top 10 auto recoveries of 2011. We highlight some of the more interesting and noteworthy rescues on the list.
Here are the top stories that caught our eye:
#8 – Honda Civic
Many of us have bought and sold items through Craigslist. Sometimes the buyer and or seller may seem a little shady. In this particular case the buyer wrote a bad check. The seller notified police who located the vehicle 300 miles away using the LoJack system and arrested the suspect.
#4 – Acura Integra
The next story sounds only like it could only exist in the fantasies of The Fast and The Furious franchise. Mere minutes after an Acura Integra was reported stolen in California police were able to locate the vehicle and multiple chop shops run by a street racing theft ring. In total seven arrests were made. LoJack claims the stolen Integra led to the 400th chop shop bust in the state because of its products.
#2 – Honda CR-V
LoJack led police who were tracking a Honda CR-V to a shipyard in Chicago. The investigation discovered an international theft ring that spanned from Tennessee to New York. Multiple stolen vehicles valued at more than $200,000 were being readied for their new home in Africa.
#1 – Family Van and Child
A kidnapper made off with a four-year-old child in the child’s family van in Illinois. Police were able to locate the abandoned van, and after a brief manhunt apprehended the suspect and rescued the child on a nearby busy street.
