Limited-Edition Ford Focus RS500 Sold Out

Interested in picking up one of Ford’s limited edition Focus RS500s? Even if you live in Europe, you’re out of luck. The automaker took reservations for all 500 examples within 12 hours of officially unveiling the car.

Autocar has learned that, even before setting a base price for the car, Ford received reservations for all 500 cars. If this doesn’t signal rampant demand for the car, perhaps the events surrounding its launch do. Ford was forced to unveil the RS500 two days early, as enthusiasts hacked Ford’s microsite and leaked images and information ahead of time.

“From that moment on (when the RS500 was first revealed) people were literally walking into dealers or calling them up and placing orders for the car,” a Ford insider told Autocar. Officially, the ordering process for the car won’t begin until next month, but the impatient gearheads have been able to secure a place in line.

More than 500 customers from the United Kingdom expressed a formal intention to buy an RS500, but they’ll be out of luck. As we first reported, Ford plans on selling the car across Europe, and has established allocation numbers for each country. Autocar suggests the incredible demand for the RS500 stems not only from its collectibility or increased power, but for the incredible demand for the “base” Focus RS itself. In England, used Focus RS models regularly sell for more than the new purchase price.
