If Obi Wan never told you about this car, it’s because he was afraid of it. Hot Wheels allied with Star Wars to build a life-size Darth Vader car for this year’s Comic Con, and it’s far more badass than the Sith Lord’s TIE fighter.
While you’re wasting time with your friends at Tosche Station with some power converters, Vader breathes heavily over his life-size Hot Wheels car. The long-wheelbase monstrosity is complete with Vader-helmet looks, including a gloss black finish, vertically-slatted front fascia, cockpit hatch, and sloping rear end. Red-lined tires add to the black-and-red Sith theme. And of course, there are lightsaber-shaped running boards.
Devoted to the ancient religion known as horsepower, Vader and his potent 526-hp LS3 Corvette V-8 engine will keep the sniveling Rebel Alliance on its heels. The same LS3 V-8, which featured prominently in the outgoing Chevrolet Corvette, Camaro SS, and SS sedan, is available as a crate engine directly from General Motors.
“Born from the darkness, lacking hesitation and mercy, it will contain unlimited capabilities to strike a blow to the Alliance,” pronounces an Emperor-sounding narrator in Hot Wheels’ teaser video. The Dark Side has never been so tempting, but a life-size Millenium Falcon-themed car with a comparable powertrain would be enough to keep us loyal to the forces of good.
Visitors to this year’s Comic Con in San Diego on July 23 will get to see the Darth Vader car in person, alongside other Star Wars-inspired character cars and die-cast replica starships.
