Lexus LF-NX Concept Updated for 2013 Tokyo Auto Show

The Lexus LF-NX compact crossover concept was one of the most controversial debuts of this year’s 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show thanks to its angular, aggressive styling that took Lexus’ spindle grille to a new level. Despite the mixed feedback, though, Lexus is bringing the LF-NX concept back for the 2013 Tokyo Auto Show with a turbocharged engine replacing the previous LF-NX’s hybrid powertrain.

The Lexus LF-NX Turbo concept will feature an all-new 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. Although Lexus is not providing any information about this powertrain right now, it’s a significant development for the brand, as neither Lexus nor Toyota currently offers a turbocharged engine in the U.S. This turbocharged engine could make its way into the expected production version of the LF-NX and we wouldn’t be surprised if it eventually made its way into the Lexus IS compact sport sedan. Considering that the majority of Lexus’ luxury competitors make extensive use of turbocharged and supercharged powertrains, this type of powertrain has been a long time coming for the brand.

Other than the engine transplant, the Lexus LF-NX concept receives other minor changes to give it a sportier look. The crossover has been slightly lowered, with a new front under spoiler and different-color trim on the imposing grille up front. The LF-NX’s chrome trim has given way to darker grey accents all around, and new wheels round out the exterior changes. The futuristic interior also receives a few changes, such as new red-accented gauges and other red trim pieces throughout.

Look for the updated Lexus LF-NX crossover concept to make its official debut at the 2013 Tokyo Auto Show in two weeks.
