Lexus GS F Teased for 2015 Detroit Auto Show

Long-rumored performance sedan arriving in January.

Lexus has given us a glimpse at one of the two performance models it will introduce next month at the 2015 Detroit auto show. While Lexus hasn’t shared much information on the new car, it is likely the long-rumored Lexus GS F performance sedan.

Our spy photographers have snapped Lexus GS F prototypes countless times, including on the Nürburgring in Germany. Prototype cars wore more aggressive bodywork, enlarged wheels and brakes, and the stacked quad exhaust tips we saw on the 2015 Lexus RC F coupe. As the teaser photo reveals, a new front fascia will bring enlarged air intakes, while larger calipers will grab slotted brake discs. The teaser photo also shows low-profile performance tires mounted to new wheels.

Most reports suggest the Lexus GS F will use an upgraded version of the 5.0-liter V-8 found in the 2015 Lexus RC F. Given that the GS F is larger than the RC F, the V-8 would probably be reworked to produce more than the RC F’s 467 hp and 389 lb-ft of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission, as is used in the RC F, is likely to also be used in the GS F.

It’s still unclear what other Lexus performance model will be shown in Detroit alongside the GS F. One possibility is a Lexus IS F sedan, which could simply be a four-door version of the RC F. Lexus introduced its original IS-F performance sedan at the 2007 Detroit auto show.

Stay tuned for more details on the upcoming Lexus F performance cars as we approach the cars’ debut on January 13, 2015.
