Lexus today released a teaser photo of a new F high-performance car that it will introduce next month at the 2014 Detroit auto show. Although the company isn’t revealing many details on the new car yet, Lexus says this F model is, “Designed from the asphalt up, to strike at the heart.”
The car in question is most likely the Lexus RC F coupe we’ve previously spied testing. It will be a higher-performance variant of the 2015 Lexus RC coupe that debuted last month at the 2013 Tokyo auto show. Whereas the standard Lexus RC will likely be offered in the U.S. with a choice between a 2.5-liter and 3.5-liter V-6 engine, the RC F replaces the Lexus IS F and will have a much beefier powertrain. One report suggests the new car will use a 5.0-liter V-8 good for about 455 hp paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Other changes compared to the 2015 Lexus RC will reportedly include the larger multispoke wheels visible in this teaser photo, a lower and stiffer suspension, and a new aerodynamic body kit designed to maintain downforce at speeds as high as 186 mph. The car’s cabin is tipped to feature exposed carbon-fiber trim and Recaro seats, while the tail may have an electrically extending spoiler.
Expect more details on the new Lexus F as the 2014 Detroit auto show approaches. Later, Lexus will continue to expand its go-fast lineup with the GS F sedan we spotted testing on Germany’s Nürburgring.
