Confirming our suspicions, Lexus has announced that the upcoming F Performance model to be shown at the 2014 Detroit auto show will indeed be a coupe. Along with the announcement, Lexus also released a second teaser shot of the upcoming F Performance coupe.
It’s a safe bet at this point that the new coupe will wear Lexus RC F badging. Consistent with earlier reports, the new teaser photo shows a sportier, more performance-driven hood design that integrates a prominent scoop and now-familiar black-spindle grille. Although no other details can be gleaned at the moment, the Lexus RC F is expected to also contain carbon-fiber trim and Recaro seats, stiffer suspension, and a new aerodynamic body kit. Lexus’ first teaser already previewed the performance coupe’s bigger multispoke wheels.
The Lexus RC F coupe’s reveal at the 2014 Detroit auto show will follow the debut of the standard 2015 Lexus RC coupe at the 2013 Tokyo auto show. The 2015 Lexus RC will be available with either a 2.5 –liter or 3.5-liter V-6, and we expect the souped-up Lexus RC F could get a roughly-455-hp 5.0-liter V-8 engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. If those figures are accurate, the Lexus RC F will be handily-equipped to do battle with the new 2015 BMW M4 and its 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-six, which yields 425 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque.
Lexus will officially announce the new F performance coupe’s name in early January 2014, perhaps before it makes its public debut at the 2014 Detroit auto show.
