Lap of Hell: 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI Laps Nordschleife in 7:55

Many automakers use the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife for development and then brag about its vehicles’ best lap times. No exception to the rule, Subaru has just released footage of its new 2011 Impreza WRX STI sedan lapping the Green Hell in 7:55.

Subaru claims its 2011 WRX STI is “the fastest WRX STI ever,” and with that incredible lap, the company has backed it up. The Japanese company can also now claim the unofficial four-door sedan lap record. More impressively, it took the lap record from the $133,000 Porsche Panamera Turbo that performed the lap in 7:56. The new WRX STI also beat out the monster Cadillac CTS-V sedan’s time of 7:59.

The test was conducted with Subaru’s latest 2011 WRX STI sedan that features significant chassis updates for improved handling. Subaru lowered the ride height, added new bushings to improve camber as well as larger front and rear anti-roll bars, increased the front and rear spring stiffness, and swapped the 2010 wheels for even lighter units. All of these changes have definitely paid off, as proved by the lap time. The performance upgrades will also apply to the 2011 WRX STI hatchback.

If you’re tired of your neighbor bragging about how fast his Panamera is, just head to your local Subaru store and then invite him to the track — that’ll shut him up. To see the full video of Subaru’s hottest lapping the ‘Ring, click here.
