Lamborghini Plans to build Estoque for 2012 Model Year

Lamborghini’s head of research and development said, in an admission of the company’s wish to broaden its product range, that the business case for the Estoque is being made. Lamborghini wishes to have the car in production at the end of 2011 as a 2012 model.

If the car is approved by the VW executive board, the Estoque will begin development at Lamborghini’s headquarters early next year. If the car makes it through the business end of the project unchanged, the car will have the same drivetrain as the Gallardo.

The Estoque would have all-wheel-drive and a version of the 5.2-liter direct injection engine with about 500 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque. It will be tuned to deliver the power and torque at lower RPMs to make for a better daily driver than the current high strung sports cars.

The transmission will be a departure from anything seen from Lamborghini today and will be a new seven-speed dual clutch setup. This is likely a more performance oriented version of the DSG from Volkswagen/Audi. It is vastly different from the six-speed manual and autoclutch-manual E-gear currently offered.

Another departure from what is normally seen out of Sant’Agata is the possibility of powertrain options. The Estoque platform was built to accept twin-turbo V-8 gasoline and diesel engines. Lamborghini may buy a hybrid system that would mate with either of those engines in the hopes of lowering CO2 emissions.

Expect a price around $250,000
