This concept for the 2005 Los Angeles Auto Show combines some of the best attributes of Lexus to create a car that uniquely defines the physique of the Los Angeles global-entertainment culture, the Ultimate Hybrid Vehicle.
The technology involved creates a super-luxury class sedan that is a full hybrid vehicle. Now hybrid technology (displayed to such good effect on the red carpet of the 2004 Oscars by the ) has been combined with a new V-12 that would rival any contender from Germany or the UK. The top surfaces of the car running from logo-to-logo are solar panels that not only power most of the car’s entertainment technology, but also create new luxury ornamentation.
The packaging has been set up for L.A. One side of the L500 is a 4-door sedan; this is the presentation side. The other side is a two-door coupe designed for dramatic entrances; we call this the red-carpet side. This unique set-up allows for some interesting interior packaging. When driving alone, the sensation is as if piloting a personal craft with a panoramic view. With passengers, the rear passenger side seat slides front to back to create a space suitable for conversation or privacy.
Finally, the body surface of the sedan side is broken up by a two-tone color scheme that is created by the world’s first LCD in a car-length application. Inspired by the lights of Sunset Boulevard and L.A. car customization, this screen can display anything that the owner desires. It’s the ultimate show– nothing upstages the L500 whether cruising to the club or driving up to the latest red-carpet award ceremony.
