Kia’s sports car concept for the 2014 Detroit auto show that was teased a few weeks ago will be called the Kia GT4 Stinger Concept when it is fully revealed January 13. A second teaser photo of the GT4 Stinger Concept shows a low-slung front end and unique LED headlights that flank Kia’s signature “tiger nose” grille.
We previously thought that this Kia concept suggested a possible Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ competitor from Kia, but now that Kia has provided more information about the GT4 Stinger Concept we think that this 2+2 sports car might be larger than the diminutive Toyobaru twins. The GT4 Stinger’s wide stance, 20-inch wheels, and 2.0-liter, 315-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine mean that this concept could be sized a class up. Still, with its rear-wheel-drive and performance aspirations there is still plenty of overlap between a potential production version of the GT4 Stinger and the FR-S and BRZ.
It’s too early to tell what the Kia GT4 Stinger Concept will look like in the flesh, but the front end displays a few interesting design cues, most notably the vertically-stacked LED headlights. The front end should be aggressive, with hood vents, air ducts to cool the brakes, and a carbon fiber front splitter that adds down force. Based on the previous teaser, the Kia GT4 Stinger Concept will most likely be a hatchback with sleek, bulging rear hips.
Stay tuned for news from the 2014 Detroit auto show, when we’ll get the full scoop on the Kia GT4 Stinger Concept.
