Japanese Dominate Most-Researched Vehicles List

/a>Kelly Blue Book released its list of the most-researched vehicles, which is unsurprisingly dominated by Asian nameplates. The Honda Civic, which dethroned the Ford F-150 as the best-selling vehicle in America for a brief stint over the summer when gas prices leapt above $4 per gallon, sits at the top of the heap.

KBB’s list included six Honda nameplates in total, including the Accord in the number two spot, the second most-researched truck, the Honda CR-V, at number six, as well as the Odyssey, Pilot and Fit. Toyota had seven models on the list, with the Camry and Corolla nabbing the third and fourth slots, and the Toyota Highlander at number eight. The Honda Civic, Honda Accord and Toyota Camry have dominated the top three spots on the list in varying order since 2004.

Of the domestic automakers, Ford had the most models-the Ford Escape at number twelve and the Ford Mustang at sixteen. The Chevrolet Malibu was GM’s only model to make an appearance on the list, but also had the biggest leap of any vehicle compared to 2007, jumping fifty-five spots from number seventy-two to number seventeen. Chrysler had no models on the list.

Overall, the list reflects the changing sales patterns of the market: cars dominated the list over trucks and SUVs thirteen to seven. Of the thirteen cars on the list, six were compact or sub-compact cars. The Honda Fit and Toyota Yaris, which were ranked thirty-five and twenty-three last year, jumped into the top fifteen this year.
