Jaguar Brand Director Says Bertone’s B99 Concept is “Not for Us”

Whether you loved it or hated it, the Jaguar B99 concept by Bertone undoubtedly has a bit of a retro English vibe going for it. Don’t get your hopes though, because Jaguar says the B99 will not be going any further than the concept stage.

Penned as their idea for an entry-level sedan, the Italian auto design firm named the Jaguar B99 in honor of their own 99th anniversary. There are definite hints of the first XJ and XJ-C coupe, and the B99 has everything from the pillars to the shape to the feline headlights to remind you of a Jag. But Adrian Hallmark, Jaguar’s global brand director, was quick to quell any ideas that the B99 was a sign of things to come.

“I saw it for the first time yesterday,” said Hallmark in an interview during last week’s Geneva show. “It is not our concept. We appreciate the fact that Jaguar is interesting enough for people to do a concept around. It’s not that we are offended by it, or against it — it is just not for us.”

Jaguar is planning to bring a small 3 Series/A4/C-Class competitor to the field, but it reportedly won’t join the field for another 2-3 years. Hallmark affirmed the compact car design had not been selected yet.

And though Hallmark has effectively shot down Bertone’s interpretation, that doesn’t mean the future Jag will look completely different from the B99…
