First Look: Jaguar B99 Concept

Italian design house Bertone has released few details of its new Jaguar B99 concept, but some images of the new concept, destined for a Geneva debut – are leaking out ahead of schedule.

Bertone says the B99 concept – named in honor of its own 99th anniversary – is its take on what a small Jaguar could look like. The timing couldn’t be any better, considering Jaguar is also working on crafting a compact model to counter the BMW 3 Series. The official teaser photo shows little of the car, but a rendering leaked by German outlet AutoBild suggests the B99 is a svelte, muscular sedan that takes after the original XJ (and, to an extent, the two-door XJ-C).

Jaguar itself had no direct involvement with the development of the B99, but officials tell us the company is enthused about the car, and is excited to see how an Italian design house interprets what a Jaguar should be. Here’s hoping the B99 is a little more impressive than previous Bertone Jaguars – its rebodied 1957 XK150 S coupe bore considerable Alfa Romeo influence, while the Piranha concept from 1967 was a near clone of the Lamborghini Marzal and Espada.

We’ll have more for you on Bertone’s baby Jag as we move closer to its reveal at the Geneva show.
