Jaguar Cars North America has announced that it has teamed up with Legends of Motorsports to announce a new three-race series for all vintage Jaguars. The new Jaguar North American Challenge Series will also pay special homage to those racing Jaguar E-Types by creating what Jaguar calls, “a race within a race” — a points championship specifically for drivers of the classic British sports car.
Jaguar created the Jaguar North American Challenge as part of the year-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Jaguar E-Type, which was introduced at the 1961 Geneva Auto Show. Jaguar says that while the North American Challenge series will be open to all Jaguar Race Cars, only those behind the wheel of an E-Type (also known as an XK-E in the United States) will be eligible to earn points toward the E-Type Championship.
The E-Type Challenge Series features three races across the country: The Kohler International Challenge with Brian Redman at Road America from July 14-17, The Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca from August 19-21, and the Lime Rock Historic Festival 29 Presented by Jaguar on Labor Day weekend. The winner of the E-Type Challenge Series will win the E-Type Championship Trophy, while other E-Type pilots will be eligible for The Spirit of Jaguar and Driver’s Choice awards. All awards will be given out at the final race at Lime Rock in Lakeville, Connecticut.
