IntelliChoice Gives 13 Toyotas Value Awards

Stop us if you’ve heard this before: a third-party automotive rating site performs a study on a group of cars’ cost of ownership or reliability, and then gives an award to a Toyota Motor Company product. It’s fairly common, but take that story and multiply it thirteen times over and you have today’s news: IntelliChoice’s yearly “Best Overall Value of the Year” awards were dominated by Toyota and Lexus vehicles.

IntelliChoice’s Best Overall Value of the Year awards goes to the cars that have the lowest cost of ownership in comparison to the rest of the market. IntelliChoice editors give out 23 awards (one for each market category) after analyzing data on each and every new car sold in the U.S.

This year was the year of the Toyota/Lexus: the two brands earned 13 out of 23 BOVY awards from cars as small and inexpensive as the Toyota Yaris and as expensive and large as the Lexus GX460. Second place in the manufacturer’s race was the Volkswagen Group, which earned five awards for five VW, Porsche, and Audi products. It was also a good year for unconventional powertrains: IntelliChoice gave its honors to five hybrids and three diesel-powered cars, in part because their low fuel costs drive total cost of ownership lower.
